Interesting comment, and I don't disagree with you. It's interesting because Sinead's voice is much more treble-y and brassy than Katie's. If I listened to the original, My first thought would probably not be that it's a great fit for Katie.
This cover shines because of her talent and conviction, but most of all because she made the song her own and didn't try to imitate the original.
