James McMurtry - songwriting and playing at its best

No love? This is the best song I've heard in ages....

The best line has got to be-

"He cooks that crystal meth because the 'shine don't sell
You know he likes that money, he don't mind the smell"

Oh yeah... I'll give it some love. I have ALWAYS loved this song. I've only heard the live band version ("James McMurtry and The Heartless Bastards Live in Aught Three),which I like better. James McMurtry writes songs like his dad writes books. It's always surprised me that he's not more well-known. I also love the songs "Sixty Acres" and "Lights of Cheyenne". He does tell a good story! He's one of the things that makes me proud to have grown up in Texas (just until I was 13, when we moved to Wyoming, so he's got that covered too!).

Great songs, man, thanks for posting them...... I'd heard his name, but a friend who spent a lot of time in Austin/College Station back in the day turned me on to him earlier this week. Can't get enough - great songs, great playing..... just loving it......

I love his album "Candyland". From the song "Safe Side"...

And at the base of the barstool there's a drain in the floor
You better not go in there, if you don't know what that's for
