Sorry no introductory video this time. As I said in the previous season, last week was not the best of weeks and I spent today in York playing medieval music so I was a bit tired when I got home.

This season's theme is "Time for a singalong". You've got a gig at a local pub or old folks home or other community event and you've been told they like to sing along. There's lots of songs that people "know" but what they actually tend to know is one verse and the chorus at most. So you are going to make your set up of a series of medleys of well known songs that people will join in with. Your medley can just consist of two songs or it can be more. It's up to you. You will need enough medleys to make up a set so you can submit up to as many as you think you will need for a 30 - 40 minute set or you can just submit one medley. It's all up to you. This is all about having fun both for yourself and others.

The usual rules apply.

Recordings made specially for this week and featuring ukulele
Start time midnight Hawaii Sunday till midnight Hawaii the following Sunday
Solo, collabs or multi tracking are fine, after all your gig might be for a band
Say somewhere your recording is for season 284

Have fun.

I forgot to say. The Mbuti specialise in medleys as well as being the other things I mentioned. :eek:ld::music::biglaugh:

Just to clarify, it's OK to do a medley purely in Mbuti, if we so choose? :)

A good challenge Geoff. I hope I have time to build a suitable set list of medleys for you this week.

What, he asked, is a "Mbuti"?

Well medleys aren't my favourite musical form.
They kind of remind me of those ransom notes made by sticking words from various sources to make the sentences you want.
That said I have one in the bag ready to go as I do enjoy the challenge of doing something I otherwise would avoid.
Nothing Mbuti about it though...
Thanks for the week Geoff!

Not sure how much I'll be able to contribute in the next few weeks but I'll be checking out and enjoying other's contributions in any case :D

Hope things improve at home, Geoff - & I might even have a try this week although I'm not sure of the mbuti words I might need - oh, what's that, I don't have to sing in mbuti... :smileybounce:

Thanks Keith. I think my wife's on the mend and I'm feeling better. I really enjoyed the medieval music day yesterday. Some interesting and enjoyable music.

Remember if you want to do your entry in Mbuti, it must be a complex polyrhythmic myxodorian harmony played on old tin cans retrieved from a Landfill site in East Ham on a foggy Wednesday in December.

:D

I tweaked and changed it some, but this is a version of a train song medley Boxcar Willie did on a regular basis. I used to hear him sing it on the Grand Ole Opry, and it always got a great response, and I always liked hearing it. He was such a crowd pleaser anyways, but I always noticed people were singing and clapping along during this. If I ever got brave enough to attempt a nursing home gig, or something of that ilk, this would probably be a good medley to do. This was my third take on this, not close to perfect I know, but I kept this one.

You're absolutely right about people knowing perhaps the first verse and the chorus, I remember being surprised at how few lyrics to songs I actually knew when I first tried singing a couple of years ago.
Should be a fun theme Geoff, doubt I'll have time to do anything, busy week, but I will try.

season 284, hastily cobbled together different sort of songs medley....

This is a medley I use all the time It is especially good to use at the end of Workshops for Novice Ukulele players. Please join in, in the Key of C.

Just so happens I'll be performing at only my second open mic night in three years here in Yangon this week. I'd meant to save it until later, but given this week's theme, I think I can push it forward.
