Bore Da!
Welcome to Season 145!
This week I'd like to shine a light on the music of Wales!

I want you to record any song written by, performed by or made famous by a Welsh band or artist OR if nothing takes your fancy, feel free to write an original song or find a song about beautiful Wales.

There are stacks of artists to choose from & I'd like to bet there'll be a few "I never knew they were from Wales" moments :)

Here a few links to get you started, folk, classical, rock, pop, it's all here...

  • No videos posted before Sunday morning, Nov 23, Hawaii time.
  • Say or note that it’s for Season 145.
  • A maximum or THREE songs per person (send any others to the island)
  • Season ends Sunday, Nov 30, at a minute before midnight, Hawaii time.
  • Multitracking, looping, duets are all fine... anything goes but the uke must be up front and centre.

There will be just one winner chosen by my good self and the prize.... well I wanted to put up something really good, something to squeeze that extra little bit of creativity from you all. So I thought, what does every ukulele player want, nay need... yes that's right, another ukulele. So I went shopping and a brand new Welsh flag concert uke awaits the winner!!!!!

Oh, I got one for this week. By a Welsh musician and it even mentions Wales.

Really fantastic prize Mike. This will be fun for me. When a new theme comes like this I consider it a lesson in so many ways. I love reading about new places. Thanks for the opportunity to get to know your area more and especially the music and artist from the area.

Da iawn

Any of my UK brothers or sisters recommend a band I might look at? I listened to some Murry the Hump, really liked them but can't find any of the chords...

I gave them one look - song was pretty harsh. I will give them more of a listen. THANKS.

oh wow great theme GREAT prize!

*uke prize = gloves off, competition-wise!*

and...

Bonny Tyler

ok, no need to put my thinking cap on or do any research...

 bonnie

i LOVE bonnie tyler

i have tried singing one of her songs on uke, tried many times, failed many times, that woman can reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally sing, man, can she belt out a tune, i think this is the week to persevere to the max, if that gorgeous uke can't inspire to work a bit harder nothing will!

Would half-Welsh groups be acceptable? Specifically, John Cale and Lou Reed.

I had to use cordify for my first song I will be doing for this season. It was a more simple arrangement so I felt pretty confident I could ferret out something similar to the band. I am still early into researching songs/artists and really liked the band named Tiger Please. couldn't find the chords for them though.

My wife is going to break my uke over my head if I don't stop singing "AND I NEED YOU NOW TONIGHT...AND I NEED YOU MORE THAN EVER".
Try as I would like to learn a new band or artist, there is still one Bonnie Tyler hit I have not done. It is with great trepidation that I approach it, because I thin I have to burn down my house to really get the right video effect.
Awesome theme Mike (and somehow two obsessions intertwine again),
Make the prize a new house and I will do the dance routine as well ;)

Omigosh, what an awesome uke. I want that uuuuuuukkkkkke!

I did a half Bonnie Tyler for Yacht Rock (the other half was Swedish). Time to explore.

Fun theme, Mike! Looking forward to getting to know your homeland.

Tom Jones or Cerys Mathews or both at the same time.

Cerys was the lead singer in the band Catatonia

They don't come any better than Katherine Jenkins.............her classical singing ain't bad either !!
Great theme Mike !!

Awesome theme Mike, got a tonne of stuff to do if I can find the time.

The Welsh are renowned for their male voice choirs and also for their rugby.
Combine the two and you get some real raw emotion.
