when i did amen corner's "paradise is half as nice" for mike's welsh week, i figured i must have heard that song on the radio or TV when i was a baby or teeny tiny child. and it set me thinking - what where my very young ears listening to, before the seventies and eighties fabulousness that i bang on and on about endlessly, even started? how many other great songs did i hear back then? i want you to bring me those songs!

so, let's go back to the late 1960s
specifically, to 1967, 1968, and 1969
i want songs that were in the charts in the UK, and/or songs from the eurovision song contests, for those years

here are run downs of the hundred most popular songs for each of those years here in the UK, to get you started...

and redpaul posted these great links too, thank you paul!

If you want a bit more detail/inspiration, here are the links to the official UK Top 40 charts for each week from 1/1/1967 onwards:

Top 40 Official Singles Chart UK Archive 1967

Top 40 Official Singles Chart UK Archive 1968

Top 40 Official Singles Chart UK Archive 1969

and here are video run throughs with snippets of each song, for each of the eurovision song contests for those years (see video description for details of each song)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjBIyRnt8jQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flVRfJtZ1OQ

you can do up to three songs... no hold on i'm changing my mind about that as we speak... do as many as you like!
all chart hits
or all eurovision songs
or a mix of both
whatever you fancy

if you want to do an original song please bring me something in the style of the time - or should i say in ONE of the styles of the time! you can do a regular song, or you can try a eurovision style offering

i would like new vids only please, made especially for this week. (if you do an original, please make it a new one, written for this season.)

no mashups.

multitracking, clever video editing, and other fancy footwork are all permitted (but not required)

prizes...
there will be two prizes, one for my favourite vid, and one for a name picked at random from a list of all participants this week.

prizes for each winner will be a "top of the pops" 1960s compilation cd.

newbies, lurkers, and beginners most welcome - come on in and join the seasons party!

season starts saturday night 11.59.59 pm hawaiian time and ends the following sunday 11.59.59 pm Hawaiian time, i.e. season runs for 8 days.

When you say " you can do up to 3 songs "....now imagine a spotlight lamp...a desk and a single uncomfortable chair.....and a guy in a trench coat asking you ..............How Many ?.............

Oh ...btw ...you are sat in the uncomfortable chair ....in the spotlight lamp ..glow ...thing .......

3..............................................................................................tch ...........................................................................I ask you ?

lol...just in case......

well you know... three... or thereabouts... it seemed a good idea at the time to say three but if you wanna do more... heck, do more! i'm not gonna say no to extra ceejay, or extra anyone else actually!

P.S. it really is hot and stressful under that lamp!

There ain't half some schlock on those lists, is there? I'm watching YouTube clips of some of these songs in horrified fascination. Did you know that ol' Peace Train himself, Cat Stevens, had a hit called "I'm Gonna Get Me a Gun" when he started off as a Tom Jones wannabe?

:wtf:

oh gosh that is dreadful and yet at the same time fabulous!!!!!!!!!! just what i'm looking for!

Fun theme Joxer. Looking forward to it!
bring it, and make it mighty!

My parents loved this one. In the early '80s, I had an alternate set of lyrics for it. Something like:

Screwed, screwed, I think I'm screwed
Destined to fail at everything I do
Screwed, screwed, I know I'm screwed
My plans all fail and my dreams don't come true

Once I thought I'd try
"I'm a lucky guy"
But the whole thing fell
And I felt like hell

no the top 100 was just a starting point really for song research, i would like songs that were in the charts in the UK in the years in question, plus eurovision of course, i'm looking for stuff that would have been on the radio and tv back then here, if you think baby me might have heard it, go for it!

This is just an awesome season :music:

Cool!!!! Got a song in mind and just figured out how to play it... so I'd better get practising :-D

OK. This one was on the 1967 Brit top 100 list.
A Kind of a Hush - Hermon's Hermits.

Trivia Question - which animated TV character sang this song to a bowling ball? - no Googling.
