UKULELE WORLD CONGRESS 2015 * 7th Annual! *

June 5th-6th 2015
NEEDMORE (Brown County!) INDIANA

About 10 miles from Nashville Indiana off HWY45 at @ 4600 Plum Creek Rd.

Free! Compliments of Mainland Ukes

http://www.youtube.com/user/UkuleleWorldCongress

Most people show up Friday afternoon, but more and more people are showing up a day or two or three early.
You're welcome to come a day or two early, but you might end up helping with the mowing and set-up.
Some people don't leave till Monday or later!
There will be a potluck again Friday evening about 5 to 7pm. Mainland will have free water and drinks available until they run out.
There is an open mic each evening as well as a lot of other jammings all day and playing around the bonfire all night.

Nothing official planned for Sunday, but it's YOUR party so you guys can do what you want! Last year, Sunday had some nice low-key jamming and folks hanging around trying to find any excuse to prolong the experience.
The site for the UWC is a couple of big, well maintained fields with no permanent structures except for the stage. Both the fields are at least partially bordered by woods and a creek. Camping under shade is a good idea. There are a lot of good on-site camping areas, in the back of "parking field" there are some sweet drive up and camp spots that have shade for a lot of the day.
No dogs allowed.
There is basically an unlimited amount of parking and camping space. Portable toilets will be on site.

HOTELS:
Nashville is only about 10 minutes away from the UWC site and has a good variety of hotels and Bed and Breakfasts. Brown County Inn offered UWC'ers a special rate in the past.

CAMPING:
Primative camping is free at the UWC site! (No showers sorry)
The local YMCA in Nashville sells $5 day passes.

PROVISIONS:
Nashville is not far and the Needmore store, good for some basics is only about a mile away.

Nashville has an IGA for food and other supplies.
There is also a CVS (cheap booze) and a liquor store in Nashville.

If you are flying ,Indianapolis International airport is about an hour or so away.

Just head to Indiana and fall into the caravan.

I have heard nothing but great things about the UWC! If I want to camp with my popup camper do I need a reservation? Is there a water source or do I need to haul in my water? Do I bring one uke or A L L of them???

No reservation required. No water source on the site aside from the creek.

I have been there 3 times. There is never a shortage of camping spots. Camping happens in 2 areas, one area near the stage for those who want to play and socialize all night and a somewhat quieter area around the perimeter of a hay field, with the woods around the backside of your campsite. There is no limit to the number of ukes people bring along. My daughter and I each bring one since I can only play one at a time, it seems to work for me. It doesn't take long to get into the town of Nashville for supplies, groceries, restaurants, a trip to the Mainland uke shop and any tourist type shopping you need to do. For a few bucks you can use the shower at the YMCA.

Doug, I think I just watched a video of you and your daughter playing together at a past UWC. If that was you then great job! Hope to see you there!

What are the must haves to take along? I go camping on a semi regular basis every summer so I am more referring to things you might not normally take camping. You know, like superhero PJ's?

Thanks, that was me with Sophia, my youngest. It has become an annual trip for the two of us. Superhero PJ's are, of course, required attire for evening picking parties with your tent neighbors. We didn't have any type of portable table last year and that was a bit of a pain, but we shared meals with several tent groups and each had something that the other didn't. You probably have a pretty good idea of what you need being a regular camper. Year before last was pretty wet so extra dry shoes came in handy.

Where in Michigan are you coming from? My wife grew up in East Lansing and her mother lives near Jackson. Her family also has a cottage on Drummond Island in the UP.

Ok, super hero PJ's, check, portable table, check, extra pair of shoes. I also have a 12x12 ezup awning I will bring. I am coming from the Ann Arbor, MI area. Very close to East Lansing. In fact I am going to Lansing tonight for a uke lesson at Elderly Instruments.

I'll be there with my wife and son and nephew, likely. Thinking about bringing my guitar as well.

I am planning on making the trek from SoCal. I went to school in Bloomington and am looking forward to seeing Brown County again.

Boo hoo... In June I am still tied up with exams and student evaluations. Roll on retirement! That year I plan to get back to the UWC site (I was there a few weeks after the event in 2013 meeting Mike and his charming family, swimming together in the pond, learning to cast a fishing net, playing Uke, sharing a beer and getting me a Mainland Red Cedar Concert - which is the Uke I would hang on to last if I ever had to sell mine for food!)

Have a great time, you guys. I look forward to those youtube videos!
