UkeyDave - A final accounting

Dave joined UU on 29 June 2012 - and posted his first entry to the Seasons just nine days later on 8 July 2012 (I think I took about 18 months to dip my toe in the water!).

Nevertheless, that first video he posted in the Seasons was actually the 24th video he'd posted, all set to 'Public'. From Season 21, however he became more circumspect, with many subsequent videos set to 'unlisted', bonuses in particular. Having gone through every Season playlist & bonus list between Seasons 20 & 147, I have managed to track down another 55 uploads, and 4 collaborations uploaded by others, to add to the 263 we presented to the family at Dave's wake.

In all, Dave had 319 songs or instrumentals uploaded to his channel + 5 reviews of ukefests he'd attended. He covered 251 different songs. He covered "I Can't Help (Falling In Love With You)" no less than 6 times. "Creep received 4 covers (and "Air That I Breathe a further two). "It's A Heartache", "Make You Feel My Love" "Price Tag", "Tennessee Waltz", "Who's Sorry Now?" & "Yellow Bird" were each covered 3 times.

A further 40-odd songs received two covers apiece. He was also an enthusiastic on-line collaborator. AFAIK, he participated or posted in collaborations with BEVOMU, CJ, greenie44, lelouden, myrnaukulele, pabrizzer & TCK

I have created a Ukey Dave Unlisted Videos playlist containing all his unlisted videos, including those we managed to track down in time to add to the original set of DVDs. Some of these videos are of the highest quality. Others he was clearly less pleased with, others more 'personal'. Accordingly this playlist is itself unlisted (the full UkeyDave playlist is here).

I have had no response to my appeal for information about collaborations, so I propose this as a final tally for the final (what will turn out to be) 2 DVDs:

That was a herculean task to collate all those songs Paul, and it shows great fortitude to
have stuck to the task so well, a lesser man would have been satisfied with what was
known and not what was hidden.

I've come to the conclusion after looking back on Daves vids the 'UkeyDave Strum' was born from his methodical way of keeping a steady and precise beat as a percussionist/drummer. I wish I was as disciplined a player eeeeeeek !!

Didn't Geoff also write an original song in his memory? And other Seasonistas did posthumous collabs on the Season152 and UkeyDave threads. I hope those all got in there somewhere too.

Paul, your dedication to preserving the memory of UkeyDave, your herculean efforts in putting all this together, and your dedication to his family and our community are nothing short of a miracle and a gift. What a wonderful thing you have spearheaded here!

Paul, The work you've done is remarkable. I agree with WGY. You are definitely someone to stay on the task until the job is finished. The amount of service hours in Dave's honor is just about the best thing we've witnessed here in the seasons!

Thanks Doug. I managed to get those three onto DVD 8. What I've put up in my OP on this thread (apologies if that wasn't clear) are links to all the 'unlisted' videos he made for the Seasons, which show up here on UU, but not on his publicly accessible YT channel (the family don't have his passwords, so they can't see these without knowing what are the links). We weren't able to track down these videos in time for the presentation at the funeral, so they're being sent on - as DVDs 9 & 10!!

Edit: But listen - I'd far rather people do take the trouble to send me links they're worried I may not yet have, than assume I have found them - cos we all know what happens when we assume, don't we? So thank you Doug once again for taking the trouble to get in touch. Appreciated.

I must admit that I didn't think that the passing of someone I knew only through the Seasons would touch me as deeply as it did, but your representation of our family has been outstanding. Thank you.

My work here is done...

The final two DVDs went in the post this morning. Just. The Post Office was closing as I got there. I had to yell at them to let me in. Classic jobsworth cry of "that's the clock we open by..." Why anyone tries that on in this age of mobile phones, where everyone knows the exact time, I'll never know.

They should have gone yesterday, but as I was printing out the playlist for DVD 10, I noticed a track on the printout that I knew wasn't on DVD 10. 'Curses, foiled again', thought I. But when I looked more closely, there were another 7 that I'd found but not yet downloaded. So both DVDs had to be burnt off again - eek! Thank goodness for idiot checks.

Let's all hope they arrive in one piece. I just realised, in the rush, I forgot to put a 'Fragile' sticker on the (padded) envelope :/
