On the ukulele, what is the equivalent of the classical guitar's playing of rest strokes with alternating fingers when playing a melody? I haven't had much luck playing rest strokes on the uke. Do you just use free strokes? So much fingerstyle technique on the uke is focused on having certain fingers play certain strings so alternating fingers doesn't seem to be taught much.

Of course, if one plays campanella then the point is to avoid playing two notes in a row on the same string so the problem just goes away. Is that the ultimate answer? I'm not sure if campanella is a core skill or just a recent addition to the player's bag of tricks.

Using Classical Guitar techniques on the uke has always worked for me. Just another bag of tools to add to the techniques that are uke related.
