ooops, first time I typed that, it said a snog for europe!

your mission this week, should you choose to accept it, is to bring me songs from the amazing muscial phenomenon that is the eurovision song contest. the contest has run every year since 1956, originally just with countries from western europe, but now with countries from all across the continent, and this year, thrillingly, australia will be taking part!

in the next post i will post links to roughly a gazillion eurovision performances, of songs that are personal favourites, songs that i think are significant in the history of the contest, songs that had mainstream success after the contest and should be especially easy to find chord sheets for online, and songs that i or other sesasonistas have already brought to the seasons (it is do-able - quite a few of us did "love shine a light" for bigdaddyuker's 5 hour energy plink season, weegingayin brought a wonderful "puppet on a string" too, to my late 1960's uke party season, and i've lost count of how many eurovision songs i've done on uke!). these links are just something to get you started, and something to help people who may not be familiar at all with eurovision. there are many more songs out there - if you know the contest and want to add a link to a great eurovision performance that you think should be here, please bring it, and if you're new to eurovision and find gems in your own research, please do post them if you'd like to share them.

MAIN THEME - eurovision songs - any song that has taken part in, or will take part in, the contest, from the very beginning in 1956, up to and including this year's contest

CLARIFICATION - by eurovision songs I mean songs that have competed in the contest, or are going to compete this year, NOT songs that get performed in the interval. a song has to have had a chance............... however slim ;)............ of winning

INSTRUMENTAL - if you'd prefer to bring an instrumental version of a song, that's fine

BONUS THEME - write your own eurovision song

if you would like to write your own eurovision-style song, plase bring me

a. a love song

or b. a song about world peace

there is no limit on how many songs you can do

normal seasons rules apply... there are some guidelines in the opening post of this thread http://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/showthread.php?82618-Sign-up-for-future-Seasons-II

some eurovision performances...

(*if any of these links don't work, please let me know - sometimes vids get taken down, and if you let me know, i can post a replacement link. in the meantime you should be able to find an alternative upload of a vid on youtube by searching for the artist or song title or country, the year, and "eurovison"*)

N.B. if it's easier to bring a song in a language other than the one it was sung in for the contest that is fine. i've done love is blue, black and white, and molitva in english translations - please bring songs in whatever language is easiest for you!

Ah, very fun! As soon as Rob mentioned Eurovision about a zillion posts back this morning in the anticipation thread, I guessed that would be the theme. I had a Eurovision song picked out for some past Season - your last one, was it? Time to go dig that out and learn it.

Snog for Europe. Lol! Now that would be an interesting Season.

yes wendy for baby bev's late 1960's uke party I said people could do songs from eurovision for the years in question

I have gently but surely been working up to a theme JUST about eurovision!

This we be a fun week for me. I can't wait! Good one Lynda:)

I had a song picked out but the chords were way complex. Found a great site for songsheets(link below). Any intermediate or beginner suggestions? I might just have to write a song *cringe*

http://muzland.info/songs.html?auth=284

nm all. found one that might be a rule breaker but it did air on eurovision.

when I saw "Ooh Aah" on the list, this what what came to mind. Would be an interesting version of Eurovision with this kind of thing, to be sure...

Looking for a bit of inspiration, I came across this channel. https://www.youtube.com/user/gertiepye/videos. She's doing a song-by-song survey of the 2015 contest to see which songs sound good on the uke.
thanks for posting that! I saw her do a few songs, she's amazing at working out the chords, I was really impressed, she got going with ruslana's wild dances and said it was quite a simple chord progression

my big concern was that, apart from the songs that had really big mainstream chart success after contests, I didn't think a lot of the other songs would have easily findable chords :(

I know there are some people who really don't want to hear what songs people are thinking of doing, or suggesting for other people to do, but I think maybe this week it would be a good thing, if you have a song you wanna do, but you can't find decent chords or any chords, and you don't mind sharing what the song is, you could post it and anyone who can find a good chord answer could post the info

there are gazillions of eurovision songs but maybe not nearly so many with chord charts posted online, so I think this is a week where we might see a lot of versions of the same songs, I don't have a problem with that, so I hope people won't be put off by song choice discussions etc, or getting beaten to a song choice

I knew it. Had my song already picked out.
oh wow how great! but how rubbish that I am so predictable!

nm all. found one that might be a rule breaker but it did air on eurovision.
ah now hold your horses - music does get performed in intervals on the show and I need to clarify that i'm looking for songs that competed in the contest, not songs played while the voting gets done and everyone goes to the bar. I will go clarify that in the opening post, thanks for alerting me to this

I found something right on your front page Lynda :) I wonder if you can guess which one?
I am guessing something mad and wonderful! (mad=wonderful of course) which... given this is eurovision and I like mad and wonderful and my list is awash with mad and wonderful... does not narrow it down much! ...I really hope someone will bring genghis khan, well not literally of course, I don't want him and his angry horde running amok and galloping their wild horses over my new tenor guitar and breaking it! of course wild horses are animals and I know you love animals.......... i'm guessing genghis khan and his wild horses. and I am always wrong!
