i think "neck through" tends to be overplayed. The pickup does most of the work and good bolting is pretty tight. I would rather have another area of adjustment where the neck pocket can be shimmed (and I did shim my hadean omega).
In order of play time: Martin OXK, Lanikai LU21B, Islander MT4, Rubin Sopranino

I agree. I do think it affects the feel if you play up there a lot, but only have had one neck thorough in my life (actually, a set neck) and if you're playing up by the neck joint all the time anyway, uke bass is not for you! ;-)

But that was my point, I don't think the neck through makes any difference, especially with that same bad preamp and inexpensive pickup. They work fine, but anything with them in it is going to sound pretty much the same.

I do think the kala California basses are different because they feel really comfortable. I liked the neck on the one I tried a lot. But, I just finished playing a wedding showcase on my hadean and didn't have any issue with it and didn't think about getting another bass while I was playing...

A little late to the conversation ..........I have an Ohana OBU. It is a very nice instrument with a full acoustic sound. As far as I know, the roundwound strings are only available thru Ohana. Unfortunately I can not play this thing due to physical limits. Hopefully it will find a new home soon.

I am so happy that Kala came along with these rubbery strings and the short scale necks. Started with an acoustic mahogany and recently received a new Cali.
The Cali is the easiest and most comfortable, I would not hesitate to buy another.

I like my Samick, 3" longer than a UBass. Currently coveting an Oscar Schmidt Maple bass uke.

I bought that Oscar Schimdt from eBay Arkansas Musicworks for $240, I really liked the looks of it, but within minutes of playing it, the preamp crapped out, so I returned it. That prompted me to fix my custom u-bass that was sitting in a closet waiting for fix ups.

I have a separate post trying to find other owners to see about their experiences. So far, you are the only one and price-wise, I'm looking at the same seller. I'd like to think your's was a "fluke" but you never know.

I noticed that other dealers on eBay sell that bass uke as much as $380, could be ArkansasMusicWorks has seconds or blems and doesn't say so.

If I were to get the SmallGuitar mini P-bass, the first thing I would do is replace the pickguard with parchment pearloid to change it up and make it more unique looking.

Two year gap in your reply. I actually ended up buying one then, pink and on sale for $150, then took it to Pat Wilkins and had it painted Fender surf green. It's my favorite bass of the 18 I now have (yep, I deep in gear acquisition syndrome).
