What do you think of the EleUke SCK/CCK/TCK solid body electric?

Does anyone own an EleUke SSK? I like the sound I've heard in videos, but most of them show fingerpicking. I'm not very good at fingerpicking yet. Does it still sound good if you strum normally? Could I get away with just the uke and an amp, or would I need to learn to use a pedal for a good, distorted sound?

Don't have an EleUke, but do have a Teton which appears to be a similar design. It does not have much sound when unplugged. I did use it for a gig and strummed and it was acceptable--still sounded like a uke. We have a Fender Mustang which has amp modeling and effects built in. To me, they are rather important to help sweeten the sound.
