So I've been trying to learn a lot of the swing songs and progressions that I know on guitar on the uke. The problem is I am so used to hearing the bassline in a lot of stuff as I move the chords.

How would you play this standard turnaround/progression? On guitar it would be written like this in the key of A

D D#dim A/E F#7 B7 E7

As I search for the chords on uke, it just doesn't sound the same with that walking bassline. Sometimes I can fake it with a D7 instead of the D#dim.

Doesn't have to be in the key of A, I'm not opposed to transposing to another key if there is an easier fingering in another key.

Also interested in any resources for learning some swing stuff on uke.

Thanks for any help!

Are you using a high or low G string.?
If you are missing the bassline sound because you are using a high G then I would suggest swapping it for a low G.
I had a high G on my tenor until last Friday when I changed to learn a new finger-style technique and I was so happy to add some bass to the sound my uke.

This is an excellent book for Swing Jazz Ukulele

These books are in Japanese but you do not need to know how to read Japanese to use them.

One of the songs from the first book listed played by the author. He is also an excellent Jazz guitar player

These arrangements are in the book to give you an idea of the music.

This works for me on re-entrant tuning:

2225 (D)
3232 (D# dim)
0343 (A7)
3424 (F#7)
2322 (B7)
1202 (E7)
2100 (A)

ProfChris, thanks for that, that's kind of how I've been playing it. Trying to find something with all closed chords. Sounds good just can't get that walking bass line in, but that's not enough to drive me back to guitar.

bonesoup I love what Gerald Ross is doing could use a lesson or 6 from him.

How about this:
A 2100
Gb7 3424
B7 2322
E7 1202
A 2100

You can do it all around about the fifth fret, which is handy if you want to move it up or down to another key (or just don't want to have to keep looking down at your hand if you're singing!)
7655 (D)
5656 (D# dim)
6757 (A7)
6667 (F#7)
8976 (B7)
4445 (E7)
6454 (A)
