I have the electric tenor version and I must say that I quite like it as well! I totally get what you're saying with the whole "isn't a uke kind of a travel instrument already?" I have a long neck soprano for when I need to throw something in my backpack and run. That being said I have brought it on trips because it's a touch lighter, just a bit smaller than a usual tenor, and I can plug in if I find myself in a situation that I can go electric whilst on a trip. Also the price makes easier to risk taking places I'd rather not bring my nicer ukes.
