My future Semi acoustic Baritone planning

Thanks Rakelele,

I am quite impressed that his particular satin model was quite more figured than the one shown on the HMS website.

It looks beautiful, and it makes me glad I went with Satin.
Curiously enough, the look of the one at Uke Republic is what I expected Pono Acacia satin to look like

The particular model photographed on the HMS website looks lighter and not as stripey.. almost like it's unstained mahogany.

It has its own appeal though.. Something about it just feels very "Country stage musician" or "New Orleans street musician".. can't quite explain it with logic.

I hope mine looks pretty in person :\
Still no word that it has been shipped... the wait is killing me

How long is the production time? Wait? I'm already talking with my ukulele shop owner we have locally and I am going to workout ordering the Limited satin Nui if I can.

Btw I've noticed people with different tuning.. Low D on a Nui Spruce top it looks like..
http://youtu.be/YvLVrdNDEcQ

I may stick with the strings on it already to get the hang of the tuning change (coming from LowGCEA)
But it's interesting to see the options but with baritone as I said earlier it's harder to find people making videos about them and the options available for the type of sound people may be into..

I appreciate all the videos and input you guys have given thus far.. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to answer my questions I really appreciate it

The Ukulele Site already have the Pono Nui stock, but it takes a bit of time to install the electric pickup I requested, and setup.

The Pono Nui are tuned DGBE (baritone ukulele). Theyre not designed to be GCEA, and I dont think you can, due to the longer scale length.
Low-D is its normal tuning.

It is classified as a "baritone" ukulele, but is bigger and longer.

Ah talking with my shop about if Pono would be quicker with the pickup install or would the shop in terms of turn around time and cost.

I'm not in a hurry but I'd rather it done right and gives me Time to save. I've waited months for a instrument before.. Almost killed me but hey I'm still alive lol

There is a specific vendor that does make the string GCEA tuning now

Actually, upon reading your opening topic - being after a "rock" sound that is tuned like guitar, but is still an ukulele..

Have you considered a Solid Body Baritone Electric ukulele, such as this Pono?
http://www.theukulelesite.com/pono-be-d-baritone-electric-acacia-deluxe-package.html

They are loud enough to be heard acoustically for practicing.
But being a solid body electric allows you to plug it into guitar amplifiers, and make it sound like anything you want ;)

That's Guadalupe's GCEA in an octave LOWER than standard ukulele.
I have plenty of experience with those strings. It makes your ukulele tuned LOWER than baritone. It's an unusual tuning.

I don't think the Guadalupe strings would be long enough to fit a Nui. I have ordered the Guadalupe strings several times and have found they are *just* long enough for normal baritone.

That being said, you don't need to use that brand of strings. If you buy a "low tension" set of Classical Guitar strings (I recommend D'addario Pro Arte, Light Tension), and used the ADGB strings, I'm pretty sure you can tune it to the same tuning as Guadalupe on a Pono Nui. On a regular baritone ukulele, use the EADG strings to tune to octave low GCEA.

Personally speaking, I'm not a huge fan of this tuning. There are limited applications - sounds too muddy to strum.
Nevertheless, here is a recording I did using the GCEA Guadalupe strings a while back:

Personally I think DGBE tuning is better balanced for a baritone and Nui ukulele in terms of tone (not too high, not too low), tension and feel.

I have one I can do that with already..but I still want that hollow body sound in the Pono.

That ocarina of time at the end man....beautiful :)

I see what you mean and also read other people describe it as muddy when strumming which I think it probably a better idea to leave it as is and learn the new names for the same shapes I do already

If you want a 4-stringed steel string electric guitar perfect to substitute a baritone, here is another beautiful instrument I used to own:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/141931894808

The photo I posted in an earlier post is a steal string magnetic pick up electric ukulele I own. Telecaster style. That is a different animal then a normal ukulele.. You can't play it the same. You play it like an electric guitar. I still want a hollow body rich sound which is why I'm still looking at a baritone or a tenor guitar. That does look kool though

I wonder what the size difference is on the BN-1 vs the BN-10..and sound

The size should be exactly the same.
It's the "same" ukulele, except the BN-10D is the 'deluxe' model with gloss finish, koa binding and slotted headstock.

That is why in my opinion, the BN-1 is such great irresistible value! You get the same quality sound as a fellow "Pro Classic" model, just with more subtle decorations and finish.

I like a deep, warm sound and recently decided to see how "guitar-like" a uke could sound. I like cedar tops for their sound so I went uke shopping online and bought a Kamoa E5 tenor. Kamoa sets up their ukes with compensated saddles for low G and I strung mine up with Southcoast ML-WB strings. It has a nice rich sound. I don't know if you've tried the Southcoast strings but I highly recommend them. It may save you the expense of buying another uke (although we all need another uke). :)

Never tried them but I did read about the HM set series? In another Pono Nui just released thread a few years ago. My Tenor I don't imagine can get as deep as what I'm going for.

Personally, I'd recommend ordering directly from HMS. In case you didn't know, their shop is right next to Pono, so they can pick the nicest one for you. It will take a couple of weeks, but no extra cost for setup and shipping (if you live in the U.S.). Plus, these guys really now how to set up your uke and install a pickup.

Far as I know it should be from The ukulele site or HMS..but I will check as when we were looking it up I had to tell him to go to the main site and that's where he went because the BN-1 didn't exist on his list (so I think he has no choice since it's only on the site as limited release) and he was happy to know it did as its a cheaper option then the BN-10D or 30. Supposivly he is calling everything in today(Monday) I will check in and be sure he's ordering from HMS and that they put the pickup and neck heel button on for strap option.

I'm paying in installments cuz all up front was no way possible. Nice I have someone who understands and is willing to work with me.

Thank you for the help
