Hello everyone,
I decided to start playing the uke.. my brother has the "Kala MK-T Makala" tenor ukulele but he doesn't use it. It has no strings on it, so i have to purchase a set. I want to purchase them online for the cheaper price... I live in the US, Wisconsin.

My questions are:
1. Which set of strings can you recommend on in the range of 5-15$?
2. Where can i buy those strings online?

Thanks.

I'll answer you second question first. There are a number of online sites you can purchase strings from. These have been mentioned and recommended by UU members ...

As to your first question, for your Makala, I would recommend Aquila 10U Tenor Ukulele String Set to start with. I believe it's the stock string for that instrument and tt's inexpensive (about $6 + shipping).

Be prepared for about 100 different answers! ;)

I'm real happy with Martin M620 strings on my Kala Tenor. Available just about anywhere and reasonably priced.

The best online store that I've found is Big City Strings. Their shipping cost is only $1.95 per order.

This is a laminate uke so there is no reason to buy expensive strings.
I like Larry's suggestion.
Just get a $5 set of Martin fluorocarbon strings and be happy.

Hi, first I want to wish you good luck with your ukulele journey, have a slow and high-quality process of learning.

Regarding your question. Many people can recommend many kinds of strings, and it is up to you. In my opinion, there is no point to buy expensive strings for your specific ukulele. Grab yourself cheap ones online.
If you want, you can read a post I written in my ukulele blog. It's about buying ukulele strings, and definitely will be informative for you. I have some of my own recommendations for purchase. Just click on the link in my signature.

P.S - get your strings from Amazon.. reliable & cheap.

All laminate ukes frequently benefit from using Aquila nylgut strings.

I would buy a set of Aquilas (nylgut) and a set of Martins (fluorocarbon). They are both inexpensive and are very well liked. They are made of different compounds so you will get a feel for the different types of strings available.
