I'd like to buy a mic...

I dunno if anybody is still subbed to this thread or cares any more, since the thread is from back in May, but just in case, there is an interesting article on mic techniques from Wikipedia that I just discovered here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microphone_practice

maybe it can help some of you to get better recordings....

OK, just to resurrect an old thread for a little different info, should I buy and external mic.mics for my old Zoom H2 recorder?

Recommendations?

Probably not, but if you want to record directly into a computer, then a USB mic is the way to go.
(I use a Samson Meteor.)

FYI, ALL Zoom H-series recorders have the built-in function to work as a USB mic or USB interface using external mics plugged in to it.

The an additional USB mic would be redundant and likely of lower quality than the capsules built-in to the Zoom H2, which can be used in many configurations other than a 1-channel mono recording.

The Zoom H2 can do X/Y stereo, figure-8 omni dual-mono, mid-side stereo, and a few other modes I do not remember but the PDF of the owner's manual is free to dload from their web site for all the details...

The Zoom H2 has the built-in function to work as a USB mic, and you are likely going to spend a lot more money to get a pair of external mics that are superior to the one's build-in to the H2.

You can download the PDF file of the manual here: (look to the list in the column under DOCUMENTS)

The relevant info is on page 60 of the manual as in this screen-shot below
