The recent mass shooting in Orlando and the murder of a British MP are both consequences of certain politicians seeking power by preaching hatred. Something I find abhorrent.

Perhaps in the Seasons, we can do our little bit to promote peace and reconciliation by singing songs that promote the idea of making the World a better place, so that's this weeks theme.

Record a song that promotes a positive view of our future, one that suggests we can make the world a better place. Covers and originals both welcome, in fact I think the theme will give plenty scope for the songwriters among us.

Rules
a) Ukulele should be the main instrument though other instruments are fine in addition.
b) Start and finish on Sunday as usual so 8 days.
c) Multi tracking, plugging in etc. are all OK
d) Three song limit so I can keep up with commenting. (Hopefully)

What a wonderful theme this could (will) be!

Thanks, Geoff!

Erase the hate one uke at a time. This week is going to be pretty incredible Tootler. Great theme

Timely theme, Geoff! Maybe it will help us understand this crazy and sad year a little better.

Wonderful theme! What a wonderful world it could be, indeed.

First of all Geoff, thanks for posting the theme early. The events of the past week have left me searching for hope. I felt compelled to do a song that reminded me of the greatness of the world and creation, and vaguely involved time for last week's theme. I think it fits way better in this week. And since I have not posted it yet, I will hold it back.

See you at midnight or thereabouts.

Should I do a song from Hamilton or a song by Courtney Barnett?

My wife heard a song this week that she liked so much she wrote down the lyrics to help identify the song. It turned out to be Courtney Barnett's cover of the Grateful Dead song New Speedway Boogie.

Yay! If we don't make it with our last song for last week, it fits this week's theme as well :) What a wonderful world!

I already have two entries for the season recorded. Must ... wait ... to ... post ...

Wonderful theme, Geoff. During tough days it can be tough to see better days ahead. Thanks for helping me focus on those better days. Now, what to sing?

Last week was a tough week, and I found myself reaching for this song, just for comfort. It's a powerful number from Stevie Wonder's monumental album Songs In The Key of Life. I wasn't sure I could get a version to work with uke and voices, but I did my best.

How to get to a better world? This is a start -

Change your words into truth and then change that truth into love

Complete lyrics follow.

As

As around the sun the earth knows she's revolving
And the rosebuds know to bloom in early may
Just as hate knows love's the cure
You can rest your mind assure
That I'll be loving you always
As now can't reveal the mystery of tomorrow
But in passing will grow older every day
Just as all that's born is new
You know what I say is true
That I'll be loving you always

(Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky)
(Until the ocean covers every mountain high)
(Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea)
(Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream)

Don’t you know that true love asks for nothing
Her acceptance is the way we pay
Did you know that life has given love a guarantee
To last through forever and another day

Just as time knew to move on since the beginning
And the seasons know exactly when to change
Just as kindness knows no shame
Know through all your joy and pain
That I'll be loving you always
As today I know I'm living
But tomorrow could make me the past
But that I mustn't fear
For I'll know deep in my mind
The love of me I've left behind
'Cause I'll be loving you always

(Until the day is night and night becomes the day)
(Until the trees and seas just up and fly away)
(Until the day that eight times eight times eight is four)
(Until the day that is the day that are no more)
(Until the day the earth starts turnin' right to left)
(Until the earth just for the sun denies itself)
(Until dear mother nature says her work is through)
(Until the day that you are me and I am you)

We all know sometimes life hates and troubles
Can make you wish you were born in another time and space
But you can bet your lifetimes that and twice it's double
That God knew exactly where he wanted you to be placed
So make sure when you say you're in it, but not of it
You're not helpin' to make this earth
A place sometimes called hell
Change your words into truths
And then change that truth into love
And maybe our children's grandchildren
And their great grandchildren will tell
I'll be loving you
