There are two ways to start when buying bees, you can buy a "nuc" also called a split sometimes, it is a 5 frame working hive that you move into a bigger (10 frame box) or you can buy a "package" of bees. Package bees are basically a big bunch of bees (you buy them by the pound, typically 4-5 pound packages), they come in a screen box with a queen inside that is in a very small box. Packages are essentially an artificial swarm that you dump into an empty beehive.

10 1/2 hours later, and I've just recently quit for the day. I took 20 minutes out for dinner, but didn't eat breakfast or lunch. I got lots done, and I'm pleased with how it's coming along.

Done in time to watch the last episode of the season of the Voice....
 
Summer had talent show tryouts. She did some magic we will sée if she is chosen. She really didn't want to listen to me teach her the tricks so much.
