Hi,
Could anyone offer any help tabbing out the ballad Naima by John Coltrane?

I have attached a chart of the melody.

Thanks

First, I'd probably look for an Eb instrument chart which would put the written key as F instead of Ab. That should put the chords in more familiar territory for the uke. I probably wouldn't bother to do a full tab. There's so much space in the melody, you're going to have to fill in a lot with the chords anyway.

But yeah, I'd like to hear a solo uke version of this too.

Not sure how good your ears are at this point, but you could transcribe the harmonies from Eric Dolphy's version. Do it in three part harmony.
Do you play on a low G uke?

harmonized melody starts at around 1:50.

Give it a shot, if you get stuck we can help you.

Thanks for tips guys, i found a chart in F that does simplify the chords.
and yes i play a standard baritone mostly, so that guitar tab definitely looks convertible.

Thanks all.

Hi, Tomegatherion!

I like all of John Coltrane's albums but especially Giant Steps is one of my favorite one. The key is Eb , hence he may play alt sax on Namia. I just arranged it to simple way for you. It is not a good arrangement but you can change as you like. Enjoy!
