Mack the Knife

That was really good. His version puts the way I play it to shame.

Oh, that's brilliant!

Really enjoyable; excellent rendition!

Well, I loved it. Some of those chords you played sounded real cool. I won't even TRY to work out what they were at MY stage of the game! Well done fella!

FYI - that video is not of the OP Ukecaster, but of Ian Emmerson, who is a world-reknowned and highly-esteemed ukulele player (among other things)...

yes, I agree that he's top-notch! :)

I agree! Ian Emmerson is brilliant! There are several videos on his YouTube Channel of of Ian playing a "Tiny Tangi" and an even smaller ukulele. This is Ian playing the Tiny Tangi accompanied by Phil Doleman on an ENORMOUS (!) ukulele :)

Ian didn't play with the UOGB though, Booli. He used to perform with Phil Doleman as "The Re-entrants". They have recently started gigging again together but with Ian playing, I think, solely guitar.

This is an interview that Barry Maz did with "The Re-Entrants":

There is a "PS" coming . . . :)

MvM...

Thanks for the correction, and letting me know about "The Re-Entrants", which I will be checking out as per your links above. I have edited the above post to remove the erroneous info.

The person you might be thinking of Booli, because he also plays a teeny-weeny ukulele and is a member of UOGB, is Will Grove-White:

Ahhh, yes, you are correct again. Another master of the tiny fretboard. :)

Next time I complain about the strings on a Guitarlele being too close together

I had a similar problem with the Yama-haha GL-1 guitalele, coming from years of playing a classical guitar with a 52mm standard nut width.

The GL-1 has a 44mm nut width, but when I was able to get a Cordoba Mini, with a nut width of 50.1mm, it was much easier to play.

I have mine in Terz tuning, starting from G instead of E for normal guitar or A for most guitarleles, and I am using the standard set of Thomastik-Infeld CF128 with the wound third, and it works well for me. I have also used the CF127 set, with has 3 wound and 3 nylon.

I really like the look and sound of the Cordoba Mini, Booli! I have been drooling over it ever since I decided to give up trying to play my Kala U-Tar and convert it into a 6 string uke. Thank you for the tips about tuning and strings! It really is VERY tempting! :)

Thanks, Liz. I think I had seen that interview before, or at least read of Ian's love for his Kiwaya: "My absolute favourite home uke is my Kiwaya KTS-7, which is the one I’d rescue if my house was on fire." I think I might have mentioned it to you, Ukecaster. Loved the Mac the Knife video.

Interesting that he says the only uke he gigs with is an Applause UAE-20. I assume those must sound a lot better plugged in, than unplugged.
