Poor Side of Town (Johnny Rivers)

Brought back so many memories (I am as old as the hills LOL). Brought tears to my eyes.
Just wonderfully done!!!! Thanks.

Thanks, Keod! I really appreciate it! Hard to believe this song is 51 years old... a definite trip down memory lane! :)

Thanks, Brenda! I actually thought about enlisting some female singers to sing backup, like in Johnny Rivers recording, but I decided to just go ahead and do it with the backup boys. My wife tolerates my singing, so we're a good match!

Thanks, Luke! I really appreciate it! :)

[Cmaj7] Doo-do-do wah, shoobee-[Dm7]doobee
[Cmaj7] Doo-do-do wah, shoobee-[Dm7] doobee

[Cmaj7] How can you tell me
how much you [Dm7] miss me
[Cmaj7] When the last time I saw you
[Dm7] you wouldn’t even kiss me
[F] That rich guy you been [Em7] seeing
[Dm7] must have put you [F] down
So [C] welcome back, baby [F]
to the poor side of [C] town

[Cmaj7] To him you were nothing
but a little [Dm7] plaything
[Cmaj7] Not much more
than an [Dm7] overnight fling
[F] To me you were the [Em7] greatest thing
[Dm7] this boy had ever [F] found
And [C] girl, it’s hard to find nice things [F]
on the poor side of [C] town

[Bb] I can’t blame you for [Eb] trying
[Ab] I’m tryin’ to make it [Gm] too...
[Ab] I’ve got one little [Gm] hang-up, baby
[Fm] I just can’t make it with[Eb]out you
(without you, with[G]out you)

[Cmaj7] So tell me
are you gonna [Dm7] stay now
[Cmaj7] Will you stand by me, girl
all the [Dm7] way now
[F] With you by my [Em7] side
[Dm7] they can’t keep us [F] down
To[C]gether we can make it, baby [F]
from the poor side of [C] town

[Cmaj7] So tell me
how much you [Dm7] love me
[Cmaj7] Come near to me
and say you [Dm7] need me now
Oh with [F] you by my [Em7] side
[Dm7] this world can’t keep us [F] down
To[C]gether we can make it, baby [F]
from the poor side of [C] town

[Cmaj7] Doo-do-do wah, shoobee-[Dm7]doobee
(repeat and fade)
