Baz - thanks for another great review!

I've been watching these since they were announced at NAMM, but have not yet played one yet.

I played one of the concert Firefly banjo ukes last month at the NJ Uke Fest when Funky Frets (vendor/sponsor) had them on display, and I was impressed too with the build quality, but that one seemed a bit too bare-bones for me, and the banjo ukes with the metal hooks and metal ring always seemed like overkill to me on the hardware, and this one always seemed to be just right...

I am hoping to go visit the fine folks at Magic Fluke Company (MFC) in the next few months, and when there, maybe I will get to demo one myself (and need to resist UAS, for I already have a handful of MFC instruments).

By your review, this one really seems like a winner, but oddly I've not seen them in use as per folks talking about them on UU...maybe after your review that will change?

Mahalo brother! :)

I felt the same about the original - liked them, but almost overly simplistic for me. This is a great model though. A really great model

As I mentioned before, if you special order the uke directly from Magic Fluke you can get them to add side dots for only $2.50 a dot - well worth the effort, and it takes care of one of Baz's cons.

The other con, the case, is best avoided all together, since the factory case is just a padded sleeve. A much better choice - for only $44 - is to get the Kala Transit semi rigid case from Uke Republic. It's a great fit, and does a better job of protecting the bridge and head.

I had a Firefly and liked it. Aesthetically I wish this was available in the darker woods. I'm not a fan of that much blonde :)
