If you're looking for Hawaiian built and Koa wood do not neglect Imua. Built in Honolulu. Jorma Winkler, one of the principals, also runs the major Koa wood supplier in the Islands. He gets first choice on the best wood. Their prices are competitive.

I have an Imua concert that has supberb tone and playability. When I pick up a concert it is my first choice among Clara, Martin, Cocobolo, and KoAloha l/n Pineapple.

Hive, Kinnard and Collings in that order would get my vote. The K brands seem to have an unfinished/rough look to me. The three makers I have mentioned will be consistently flawless.

Having regard to your finger picking background and the fact that you could hardly be described as a beginner, might I suggest the Kamaka Ohta San? On the Kamaka website it's listed as the "CONCERT BELL SHAPE DELUXE (HB-2D)".

It's fun spending other people's money.
