Hi everyone!

I want to learn to play the ukulele and I spent some days thinking about what one is the best for me. I want a concert one, because I like its size and its sound, but with my price restriction (I only can spend up to 100 - 110€) I don't know if I can get a decent one or if it is worth buying a soprano. I like soprano too, so really I don't mind having one but if I can choose the same quality I prefer the concert.
I don't know how to play the guitar or another chord instruments so I am a truly begginer with this. I gonna show you a list of the ukeleles that appeal me the most and I want to know your oppinions.

- Cordoba concert 15 cm - It is about 100€, I have seen some videos and I like its sound, but the brand makes also guitars and I don't know if it's better to invest in a brand that only makes ukeleles.

- Kala KA-C concert - about 110€, I have not found too many reviews.

- Lanikai LU21C

- Mahimahi soprano ms-st2 - about 90€ but again I have not found too much information about it.

- Kala soprano KA-15S - I am not very sure about this because some reviews are not very good.

For the moment my favourite is the Cordoba, what do you think? I have been thinking in other brands like Flight, Lanikai or Luna but I didn't found a model in my price range. I don't like too much the Luna qesigns but maybe their quality is good.

Could you suggest me another brands or models?

Thank you!

Thanks for joining the forum! Have you taken a moment to search for your question...”recommended first ukulele?” Or other such terms? These questions get asked a lot, and you will get some specific recommendations—but past feedback may also be of value to you. You will get feedback ranging from a product like Enya to saving your money and buying a custom Kamaka.

The most important thing is to buy a ukulele from a vendor who will set it up properly, if you do not have those skills yourself. This means Mim, Uke Republic, and The Ukulele Site amongst others.

Thank you for your answers and the welcome! :)
I am reading some topics but I can't find an answer... there are so many models to decide! I will keep looking.
Choirguy thanks for suggesting those pages, but the ukes on them are a bit pricey for me, moreover I live in Europe (Netherlands) and with the shipping cost the uke will be tooo expensive for me :(
Do you know some good web pages with not so expensive shipping to Europe? I am looking for them in the forum but I can't find the topics.

The other interesting aspect is that brands differ in the US, UK, and EU. Sometimes they are rebranded, other times there are different brands altogether.

Barry Maz (Got a Ukulele) continues to recommend the Baton Rouge line, a German import brand. Thanks to Jumping Cow distrubuting in the UK, I was able to buy an 8 string Baton Rouge this summer—very pleased with it. Baton Rouge is not usually distributed in the US. Some people also seem to like Bruko ukuleles...but you may want to do some searching as my memory seems to indicate that some models had issues.

There are plenty of good Kalas to choose from; I’m not sure I would look at the Lanikai right now as the entire line was re-introduced last January, and I haven’t seen any of those new models in the “wild.” The music stores that used to carry Lanikai and Korala (Lanikai’s budget brand, like Kala’s Makala) do not any longer.

Good luck on your hunt!

Welcome to the forum! Your question is frequent, and the answer, as always is, it depends!

We have two Kala's in our house and we like them. We did get them set up, and it bears repeating, the set up is important.
More so if you are just starting and don't know how to do it yourself.

Mim ships world wide;

She does a very good set up and has a great reputation.

Thank you all for the answers! :)
I am aware that the set up is important, then I will discard some big webs. I have been reading the topics and I am in doubt with three KALA concert models. I'm going to open a new topic to ask for opinions because it is really difficult for me to decide :(
