Kamaka concert gift. Which pickup?

Ok thanks for the heads-up.

Sorry, somehow there was an extra 'http://' at the start of the link so it was like 'http://http://', but fixed now - maybe you can try again if not already.

anyway - this is a great product and solves/fixes issues that are present with other pickups or mics, AND is also a recording interface via USB :)

How has the durability been? I can't imagine this is something I'd use all the time, so I would hope that skinny cable would last a while.

Like you, initially I was concerned about the thin wire going to the mic element, but I've had no issues with it at all.

I am very careful with it and if not actively using it, I keep everything neatly tucked into the very nice padded-foam zippered-case it comes with.

In the event that the original mic gets damaged, IK Multimedia does in fact sell replacement mics specifically for the iRig Acoustic Stage ($39), that have the uncommon 2.5mm (3/32") plug at the end.

see here: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/cat-view.php?C=spareparts (you have to scroll down to see it)

Also, since this MEMS mic element does in fact require power (2.5v DC, IIRC) I have tested 2 different electret mic capsules plugged in to the 2.5mm mic input on the preamp, as well as a generic piezo disc pickup, and all have also worked very well.

if you buy direct from IK Multimedia, they have a special going on now on their web site with up to 30% off certain items.

I bought mine direct and received it from IKMM in Italy after only 4 days to my door in NJ, USA.

I've been thinking about getting a second mic as a spare to have on hand 'just in case' but currently have not seen any signs of failure with moderate use over the past almost 1 yr since using it.
