Hey all,

Im from Melbourne, Australia and currently own a Lag U77C (which I paid just under $200 at the time) and feel concert size is a touch too small for me. Now looking back I wish I hadn't because everything is so expensive down under.

Im looking at getting a tenor uke (preferably under $400 USD). I want a loud warm sound and would prefer a pickup.

Obviously some I can not 'try out in store' because many stores don't stock the specific model nearby so any recommendations and advice is greatly appreciated.

Kala KA-SMHTE-C
Kala KA-ATP-CTG-CE
Ohana TK-20CE
Ohana TK-35G
Pono MT
Cordoba 20TM
Lanikai LMRSCET
Kala KA-SMHT (with or without scallop)

Some cheaper options I have considered:
Gretsch G9120
Luna TT

I have owned Kala and Ohana ukuleles, although none had pickups, and I have been well pleased with both brands.

I think the Kala KAATP-CTG-CE is a great choice. It has a solid cedar top, laminate acacia koa body, electronics, and sells in the US for $379. It's my go to gig uke.

Thanks for the feedback. Went to the local uke store (Lord Uke) and tried most of the above. I found the Pono was a touch heavy for my liking but all sounded great. I also tried the Kala KA-SMHTE-C and was very impressed. They had a 20% off sale so I walked out with it. Thanks for the help guys!

For Kala, since they don't make these, I'd really try and get a Kala KA-ASOV-T;

Or a the KA-SRT-SC;

These are amazing all solid wood Ukes from Kala for the price.

Hunting them down will be the trick, but it will be worth it, I see some places selling in Australia.

You might want to read the OP's statement directly above yours......he went ahead and purchased a Kala at a great price. Just sayin';)
