You can measure the action of an ukulele with the thickness gauges that probably are in your pocket or purse. Use newish ones that don't show wear, obviously. These numbers are for U.S. coins only. If you are elsewhere, Google might get you local equivalents.
A penny is 1.55 mm thick. A nickel is 1.95 mm. A dime is 1.35 mm. A quarter is 1.75 mm. A half dollar is 2.15 mm. A dollar coin is 2.00 mm.
