Don't understand modern Martin S1 Uke saddle compensation

the Martin C1K also has the same compensation. It was a little disconcerting at the beginning, when I bought it, with all my preconceived ideas of how it should be. But then, I realized that the intonation was just fine with the Martin strings (haven't tried it with any other string brand). I guess Martin knows what they're doing (and not just chopping off guitar saddles).

That saddle is on the older koa patterned OXK as well (bought mine new in 2014). I had four years on the original set and did the string change this winter with Martin 600 as it always sounded so good. Nearly tried another brand, and now I am glad I did not experiment.

Not that there is anything wrong with change - I restrung a Kala soprano at the same time with Martins. It came alive and was a totally different uke.
