Under $10 Page Turner Pedal

Absolutely brilliant. I love this kind of innovative thinking.

Darn, and here I thought it was going to be a page turner for actual sheet music... :(

This is great Brenda!!!

You have a good eye for cool stuff :)

That's an awesome project. Not only cheap, by simple and effective, and he did not even have to open the keypad or do any soldering...he's very smart!

I had thought of doing something similar with BT keypad, but using more of the keys, in a larger box to not only do page-turning, but also to control recording and app functions inside Garageband, and other effects programs on iOS (like JamUP Po and ToneStack), but I've not had the time. some day...

I enjoyed that video a lot.

Thanks for sharing it.

I can see the joy in doing it yourself, but if you do not have the materials or materials to do it:

iRig Blue Turn ($69): http://www.ikmultimedia.com/mobile/products/irigblueturn/

AirTurn PED Pro ($69): https://store.airturn.com/products/airturn-ped-pro

PageFlip Butterfly ($89): https://pageflip.com/collections/pageflip/products/butterfly

And although slower interface: Flic Button ($35): https://flic.io/shop/flic-1pack

These are great for pre-made units as a simple page-turner, but the one I had thought of replicating as a DIY project was more like the iRig Blueboard ($99)or the Apogee GIO ($395)...

This would also let me use my iOS device for other programs such as Loopy, and can allow you to start/stop recording in Garageband and other iOS recording apps, as well as act as a controller to turn effects on or off in apps like ToneStack and JamUP Pro...all controlled by your foot and is most useful for playing live since both hands are occupied by playing the instrument...

You guys are making it so complicated ;)
I will stick with my ForScore if I need page turner
I still prefer paper but they are such a mess. I often ends up with duplicate because I can’t find the first copy!

Well, if you MEMORIZE all the songs, you dont need that 10 lbs, 5-inch thick, 3-ring binder of music sheets, nor a tablet, nor any foot pedals...

LOL.

Not everyone can do it (memorize), but if you can play 2 hrs of songs from memory, I think you would be in great shape in terms of your playing skill, as well as keeping your mind agile...which as we get older, our age is working against us...(alzheimer's, dementia, etc)

So why not try to prevent these things from taking over, but in a fun way with music?

I remember that "use it or lose it" used to be a workout/physical-exercise mantra, but it works with your neurological pathways too, and keeps all the music fresh at the top of your mind....

But, do what every works for you. It's all good to me. :)

I don’t remember where I parked most of the time
I gave up memorizing a song long time ago. As long as I still remember what ukes I own, I am all good !

Good for you Brenda.

As long as you keep playing, I will be happy.

I rarely have problems memorizing the chord progressions, after 2 or 3 times of playing. But as I get older, the lyrics are a problem.

Of course, I still remember the songs I learned as a kid...

I've gotten pretty good at memorizing song, but it seems like I've gotten to song memorization overload. For every one I memorize now, I forget one.

I ordered one from eBay that looks just like the one in the video. I think I'll make the paddles and/or case out of some dark stained wood.

I'm sure I'll still reduce everything to one page for the ipad anyway.

I've actually enjoyed memorizing songs. Didn't think I could do it at first...seemed impossible. However I found that it has actually gotten easier as I learned more songs. Good mind exercise as Booli says. A benefit I didn't anticipate is that I improvise more when I've memorized the song. I get looser (or something like that) and throw in more stuff...strum moves, bass runs..that sort of thing. A disadvantage is that I really have to cool it when playing in a group. No room for my "styling".

The iRig BlueTurn will not work on an iPad Pro. You will need special software to read, convert your PDF sheet music. The apps need to download your files with a USB connection, and iPads can’t do that. So far I tried 2 different apps but they are kludged, unprofessional software, badly documented apps. Pass on the BlueTurn pedal.

I have to disagree completely with this statement—and I have been using iPads and PDFs since the device came out in 2011...

What app are you using to read music? There are a bunch of music PDF readers that work well with these devices, and while they might have a number of detailed functions, they are not that hard to use. As for needing a USB connection, you can use iCloud, Dropbox, or even Google Drive.

The two primary apps are forScore and unrealBook. Recently Newzik also entered the realm of useable software although that app also uses MusicXML files. People looking for free apps generally try PiaScore, but forScore is so much better.

As for the BlueTurn...https://forscore.co/irig-blueturn/

Can you clarify what apps you are using, because your experience is not mine at all.
