Thread: wonderful show off pieces

    Default wonderful show off pieces

I'm getting tapped to do a few numbers, perhaps 3-5, in the fall. Usually, I just chuck out chords.

    What are good crowd-pleasing songs?

And songs that let you show some melody picking and technique?

And what songs sound especially good on a uke, particularly Hawaiian songs?

Not Hawaiian, but I’ve been playing Greensleeves out of Mike Lynch’s chord/melody book. The melody is beautiful anyway, but it seems to go perfectly with the sound of a ukulele.

That depends on the crowds. When we play in nursing homes, we play the oldies - songs that were popular when the residents were young.

I love picking Let It Be Me, Love Me Tender, Gary Owen, and Spanish Fandango....
