I'd like to get a pickup for my Martin concert, but I don't want to put anything under the bridge. I see there are various p'ups you can add externally, so I am wondering who has had good success with which models and maybe save myself a lot of experimentation.

Thanks for any tips and suggestions!

I own an iRig Acoustic Stage and they do a good job. It is a soft V shaped rubber piece with a mic inside that slides onto the sound hole. It is basically a sound hole mic with a seperate preamp that you clip onto your belt or instrument strap if you use one. The sound hole mic plugs into the preamp and you plug into the ampflier from there.

Sounds like you have had good luck with that one Dave. I did see that a while back and then was a little worried that some reviewers thought it was "delicate" - so I held off to check around some. Thanks for the info - I will move that one up the list!

Full disclosure: I have never performed on stage with it and probably never will (good uke boy does though). I have undersaddle pick ups like the LR Baggs 5.0 or Misi installed in a number of ukes and that is what I use when performing live. They are hassle free, plug and play, sound good and feedback resistant.

One of the online stores had the iRIG on sale for more or less dirt cheap, so I bought it and it will be here Saturday. I have a nice little amp, so all shoud be good.

Something I just experienced with a custom made bass uke today that had K&K pickup mics inside, there was a lot of feedback and every touch on the instrument was heard by the mics. I prefer under saddle piezo pickups just because of those problems.

8 tenor cutaway ukes, 3 acoustic bass ukes, 8 solid body bass ukes, 8 mini electric bass guitars

FWIW - - Received my iRIG pickup and I am very happy with it. A very nicely made unit with plenty of options for tone. And, it has beautiful accessories and manuals. I slipped the p'up over the sound hole, plugged into the nice preamp included witha belt clip, and then used a standard 1/4" guitar cord to plug the preamp into my Orange Crate 12 amp. All worked beautifully and the tone adjustments very useful.

Congrats on your purchase!
