traditional song, sometimes attributed to Blind Willie McTell.
impromptu recording tonight on an Ono baritone.
hope you enjoy, friends.

Great job of a great tune.

I've heard so many folks do this tune with so many variations, they sometimes sound like a different tune. Yours reminds me of David Bromberg's, who said he learned it from Willie McTell.
Johnny Cash has the most bloodthirsty version I've ever heard. His "Curtis" seems to have no regrets at all.
(Well perhaps when he sings:
"First time I shot her, I shot her in the side.
Shame to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died
.")

Many folks back in the Great Folk Scare of the late 50s into the sixties used to finish each verse with:
Deliah's gone, one more round,
Deliah's gone, one more round,
Deliah's gone, one more round,
Deliah's gone.

or sometimes just:
Deliah's gone, one more round,
Deliah's gone.

Thanks for reminding me of this song Mountain Goat. I'll come back and listen again I'm sure.

Beautiful tune, my brother.

Brian, Bill, Cam, Mark. thank you for listening lads and for commenting.
Jim, you picked it. I just listened to one of David Bromberg's rekkids before my wife filmed me here.
I know the Johnny Cash version too brother. Weird the cross pollination of folk songs,
I'm sure I've heard those lines in other murder ballads too. thanks for the comments and reminiscence mate.
One of my favourite versions is by The Backsliders, an Australian blues outfit of longstanding.
Maybe look it up sometime if you feel to.
thanks all, I appreciate your words very much.
