Season #325 - Feeling Hot Hot Hot

Ahoy good people.
Great theme this week. It is still quite wintery here in Iceland so listening to you all sing about various connotations of 'warmth' has been very enjoyable.
I am finishing my semester reports and grading my students so inspiration has been lacking in the past few days - I decided to do this song today because it is a summery song (in my mind) and has the line in it "wild, blazing nighttime" which must be a summer evening/morning rather than a winter evening/morning.
Anywho - here ya go.

A pleasant sunny Wednesday evening here in The Bay and we are up to 56 entries. Thanks to everyone who has participated so far. There is still plenty of time to join the fun if you’ve been thinking about it but haven’t yet.

And please, don’t forget to watch and leave comments on others videos. I think we all appreciate the feedback.

A new original that doesn't sound like a country song.

Whole world keeps falling down
Around me, I keep wearing a frown,
But somehow the sun the keeps shining through
It don't make no difference,
I swear it don't make any sense,
But my mind keeps going back to you

I don't know what I'm gonna do
Can't seem to keep my mind off you
Happy old sun keeps shining bright
Sometimes it even shines at night

Everything is going wrong
Hot summer days are getting longer
Gives me more time to think of you
I don't care who's president
I don't care about world events
Not them, not me, not one of us has a clue

It's a post-romantic apocalypse
My heart's gone dark, it's a total eclipse
Through the fallout of our broken dreams I crawl
I still see your shadow on the wall

Put a Flower in Your Pocket - The Arcs
Mentions hot and heat

I might be cheating here, going back-to-back, but I figured I had a couple days in the bank I could cash in at once :)

an improvised original recording on the baritone. open D tuning.
titled in honour of our host.

A new artist for me, but gets a tick because of Heat in the title

The Boiling Frog

When I learned about the season, this song kept running through my head. It was written by Pat Wynne and Bernard Gilbert from San Francisco. Recorded in 2008. The imagery is gruesome but I can assure you no frogs were harmed in the recording of this song.
For the literal-minded you can Google boiled frog and Wikipedia will tell you all about it.

Well....This Jimmy Buffett classic popped in my head as a good one for this week, until I tried it!!! This song majorly kicked my butt, found it really hard to keep the groove on it. This is the best I could do after several tries, in fact, this was the only time I made it all the way thru!

An original for ya "It's not just the heat you're taking"

lyrics
Bought herself a ticket
To see the man with the blue guitar
No one thought to tell her
That he plays the way things are

He played her and Jimmy
He played Jim and Jane
When the bridge of sighs starts sighing
Nothing stays the same

Chorus
Circus days are over
Packing up the signs
It’s not just the heat you’re taking
It’s the cold you leave behind

Took her turn inside the lion’s cage
With a monkey on her back
Figured that would shave her odds
Sweet logic drowned in that

Cause Daniel came here last week
Extracting every thorn and
In this land of kings and sawdust
Not much mercy’s going on

Chorus

Sentimental things to touch
Sentimental things to burn
Smoke hangs over Sydney
She drinks more than she earns

Fire up the mountains
Aunty Sue leaves Uncle Jack
Gumtrees spitting splinters
Aint no turning back

Chorus

A traditional song - a lullaby. I first heard it on a Peter, Paul & Mary Album in the 60s. I added an extra verse to make it suitable for 325.

Well this was a challenge. System of a Down. Desert in the chorus. Wear headphones if you're in public. F bombs lie within.
