A beautiful (if I may say) Black & White Mother of Pearl eccentric Rosette in moon spruce- Bound for Hong Kong.

Did you cut the pearl itself with a carbide bit in the dremmel router (if so, how long do they last), or did you cut it by hand with a jewler's saw?

I just used up my MOP scraps like i do when i make a wooden mosaic - some bits were "full size" though.
It certainly would be much easier on the dremel to have them 90% cut out but i just went slowly in 3 depth passes.
If you look close at the middle pic- you can see a bit of a ledge on the inside- i cleaned it up on the spindle sander- the whole thing moved a bit off the double sided tape form the 3 depth passes (that 6 passes all up- 3 inner, 3 outer) so there was way more vibration then normal.

Best would be a 1/4 bit which has no flex unlike the 1/8" bits which flex even with hardwoods.

It's not what I would call fun, but I didn't break my (oldish) bit and I routed spruce with it afterwards and it still cut clean enough.
Next MOP rosette I do like this, ill charge $20 extra for a new bit.

Thanks Beau. I think a lot about eccentric rosettes and I always come to the same conclusion: I don't get it! I'm not that eccentric! My question is a lot like a previous poster: That router bit is gonna be toast after trimming back. But what the hey, disposable.
