Aldrines Pick strum

I watched Aldrines pick strum video yesterday. Its not boom-chick ,in case you havent watched.
He makes it sound really cool, But looks harder than heck to mute & release the proper note.

Have any of yall , spent time on this?

I'm working on it. I've got the mute with my ring finger down, but the dead notes in between the actual melody is still giving me trouble.
