I'm thinking about getting another tenor Fluke for travel (plastic fretboard) but I'm thinking of getting the black "lava" one and drawing on it with a silver sharpie marker then clear-coating the soundboard to make sure it will stay.

What kind of paint should I use? I'm thinking a spray paint will be easiest for me. And also, should I just tape the end of the fretboard and the bridge to keep the paint from getting on that?

Also, I may have people sign the plastic sides and back with a marker as well and clear coat it when i get back from travels. Should I use the same stuff there too?

Thanks!

Give this a try on some scrap plastic... Krylon flat Acrylic

Or if you have a hobby shop / game store nearby this stuff is pretty durable.

In both cases, I STRONGLY reccomend a test spray on some scrap. See if it rubs off over time and make sure the matte is what you want.
