Hey everyone,
I recently bought Aquila wound Low-G strings and its sorta worn + the sound is too strong.
Basically I'm looking to buy an unwound low G tenor string. Elderly instrument gave me like 6 options of Worth strings and I think they just vary by diameter of the strings. Which of these should I get?

Btw, if anyone noes any other places to buy unwound low g tenor strings that ships to Canada, please let me know!

I use an Aquila Tenor C string as a LOW G on my
tenors,but then I use a 'normal' set of re-entrant
strings for the full set.
Use C string for the Low G,E string for the C,
High G string for the E,and the A string in its own
position.Works for me!

I posted a new message about the success I have had with Savarez Classical Guitar strings for use on my kanilea Super Tenor. I have found great success with the Savarez Alliance KF 91 unwound string with a 0.0358 dia. string. It is the purest most pleaseant G string I have tried. My previous favorite was a wound string by D'Addario the J4303- D-4th -.028 " dia. Ypoun can get them at Just Strings .com.
Good Luck

I have used a number of low g options (Worth CTLG, Worth BTLG, Aquila, Savarez Corum, Fremont Blackline, and Worth CHLGHD). After trying all of them, my favorite by far was the Worth CHLGHD, and it is now the only string I use. It is much more balanced (to my ears anyway) than the CTLG or BTLG. You avoid the squeak of a wound option like Aquila or the Corum, and I think it is brighter and has more clarity than the Blacklines.

I invested a ton of money in strings and finally found the right one for me, the Worth CHLGHD.

An unwound low G may be a lot thicker than the G strings you've had before. Check if the nut and bridge on your uke can accomodate a much thicker string.

I like my Aquila wound low G string just fine, and I don't think a thicker string would fit on my OS Concert. I'm just a beginner, though. Good luck!

I ended up with a pretty unique set of strings. I was testing out the Kala Pearl micro-wounds (I haven't found much on these lately. Have they been discontinued?) and that they had really good projection. The high tension too some getting used to, and I actually broke my A string within a week from doing too many bends. The wound G, I broke because I trimmed the end and it unravelled, leaving me with the C and E intact. After breaking another nylon A, I ended up with a pretty floppy C tuned to low G and a low tension E tuned up to A so it had a reasonable tension. This strange combo was super easy to play, but lacked projection.

I just changed to a Koaolu Gold with a wound low G. I'm thinking of swapping it out for a C, or possibly the low G nylon from Worth. The floppiness of my old G sting has greatly influenced how I play. Does anyone have suggestions for a low G nylon besides the Worths?

I have since stopped using unwound low g (ignore my prior post in this thread). But two unwound options that I did like were PhD and Living Water.

The only unwound low-G I've used is an Aquila Red Low-G. The only reason I got it was to use on my Flea Soprano as the Flea has the plastic fretboard, and metal-wound strings and plastic frets are not good long-term friends. The Aquila Red has worked very well.

That being said, Have found nothing wrong with using wound strings with metal frets. Some say the life span if wound strings is shorter than unwound strings, but that hasn't been an impact so far.
