tk-35g is the glossy full mahogany uke and the 50mg is the glossy cedar top with laminate flamed mahogany b/s

im wondering about the tone of the 50mg. mahogany is supposed to be really mellow so i was wondering about the tone of solid cedar with mahogany b/s.

i also forgot, how does the 50g (solid cedar top and solid rosewood b/s) compare to the 50 mg?

I have the cedar top soprano and it is very loud, very sweet and a dream to play. Weighs almost nothing and is very nice. I have many higher end ukes but the Ohana Cedartop is a keeper. I have Ohana Mohag. too and they sound good too but the cedar is so sweet. Better by a bunch in my opinion.

Kinda like the Kanilea in that you can play it quietly and loud and it seems at home doing both. Always sweet.

which cedartop? lol
theres solid rosewood b/s, willow, and flamed mahogany

Flamed Mohag. Looks super and I was worried about the laminate but it is superb.

cedar sounds louder hands down. I've got a Ohana cedar/rosewood concert. My favorite so far.

If it is any help, I owned the following instruments long before I worked for the company: a TK-35G (solid mahogany), a CK-50G (solid cedar/sold rosewood) and an SK-50WG (solid cedar/figured willow).

The SK-50MG and the SK-50WG look very similar and both use a very high grade (and expensive) laminate for the sides and back. They actually sound very different from each other. The WG seems to me to be louder and have a sweeter, more mellow tone. Good laminate does affect the tone.

The TK-35G is still my favourite ukulele. It is the one I record with most often. It is the one I like playing best. It has the best all-round sound of any uke I own, irrespective of price. It is the one I would take to a desert island if I could only have one.

I personally like the sweet, clear sound of mahogany. I like the deeper neck profile that my TK-35G has (we have since made it more shallow on this model). It has amazing projection and balance. This would be my choice.

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with the cedar top models. On the contrary, they are some of our best selling models and they have a wonderfully punchy, mellow sound. The great French player, Yan Yalego, regularly uses both the TK-50G and the SK-50WG.

Hope this helps.
