There are copious notes with the songsheet that goes along with this song
with the instruction to play the chorus "ritardando" and I think I applied it to
the whole song. I do hope ritardano means a gradual slowing down, and not
play like a retard... although in this case I think both might apply

It is the old principal of method actors, you have to get into character,
and what better way to deliver a languid, louche song than to perform it in
your jimjams. I would take a bet on it that for every song you sing you
have a hat on to suit the mood.
Why is it that rag-time bands wear boaters and punk rockers wear leather
jackets, and mods like the Who wear Dr Martins and StaPrest trousers.
Music has always been associated with certain styles of dress... Madonna
with her pointy bra... the dress is the message
When I was singing the song I thought that the "quick one" might be of a
sexual nature, but as the song progressed it became apparent the protagonist
was referring to the consumption of alcohol.
