There'll be nothing happening in my shed for a few months. Wife and I just sold the house and are moving to Texas to be near the grandkids! Once we're settled, I'll be taking over the entire 2-car garage for my shop, starting fresh with everything planned out, some new tools nana, lots of time and a little bit of money!
I've been trying out wood burning and dyeing. I had these marshals archival photo retouch inks left over from my photographer days. They seem to make fantastic wood dyes!. I'm trying to develop a line of ukuleles that may actually sell in stores. Buy the time I do a lot of inlay and a nitro on most of my ukes and the store does their markup they get a little pricy. I can do this wood burn/dye in about 45 minutes. These dyes produced a vivid fairly easy to control colors on this sycamore background.
I don't usually post my work here, but I'm making an exception because this tenor, just completed, is over the top for me. Spruce soundboard and curly maple back, sides and neck. Pearloid (aka Mother of Toilet Seat) headplate and binding. Turquoise InLace appointments. Double bound fretboard. The instrument is a gift for my daughter's mentor in law school. She doesn't play (yet), so I figured a little extra bling was in order.
Ken, did you already make a video of your rosette fitting technique? If not I'd be interested in seeing how you do it. You could try out your new fancy iPad stand!
