Those are water soluble "kid" paints. Finger painting, big brushes, big easel, dad's shirt for a smock

"Hats are for sissies" was directed at wearing a hat for the weather, not for fashion. By all means, if you look good in hats wear the hats - but if you're just wearing it to keep the rain off you're a sissy.

The smell of tempera paints is one of those permanent smells of childhood. Right up there with Crayola crayons and Play Doh.
I'll put it on the list right after The Goonies.
I don't think they had individual intercoms in our rooms - just a whole-school system for announcements.
I'd rank the sandlot a bit higher than the Goonies.
The only hat that doesn't look silly on my big head is a Tilly. I use them for fishing sometimes.
