How do you find the Picking Patterns for some songs?

In some songs with a picked intro or outro, is there a certain technique to finding out what those notes are and how to pluck them on your uke?

Start by learning the chords. Then your notes are already picked out. Just go one note (or string) at a time. You should at least be able to hear the first one easily (if you know what the chord is). It's one of four strings unless you're trying to learn a guitar part, which is harder. Then just go note for note, changing chords where they are due. With picking patterns more than anything it seems that "close enough" is fine in most cases.
