I am a pretty good at playing the ukulele, mastering finger picking and chucking, but I still don't know how to roll. Any tips?

Aldrine has some finger roll techniques on Uke Minutes:

Lots more on UU+ in the strumming patterns and Flamenco sections.

There are others on Youtube, maybe Ukulele Mike Linch, it was so long ago I don't remember how/where I learned them.

Ukulele Bartt also does Flamenco:

There's some is his Ultimate Ukulele DVD.

Also check the Tips and Tricks section of this forum, several threads and videos there. It think trevor88 posted several not long ago specifically on different types of rolls.

Just did a vid on that. I called it flippin' the bird (technique #2).

A few days after I got my first ukulele I had the opportunity to join a workshop with Lil Rev in Clearwater Florida. He shared the "flipping the bird" but I can't remember what he called it. Your name for it is quite catchy and I think I will adopt it.
Thanks and great videos I recommend that others check them out.

When I first read this post, I assumed he meant rolling (spinning) a uke since I had just done such a vid. I would have asked how to do finger rolls, or ukulele rolls. No wonder there are so many misunderstandings in real life. The written word is such a complex game of multiple choice. hehe I'd love to attend a workshop by Lil Rev. I've bought a number of his books and I learned to do the fan-stroke just from his video. He's an amazing musician and great instructor.

Back in 2002, someone in NYC asked me to compose a song for Thanksgiving about flipping the bird as a kind of joke. It got animated in Flash though it's no longer on her web site. Probably a good thing. LOL That's why that expression has stuck with me after all these years. I just revived it for the ukulele spinneroo.

Jake S. shows rolls really well in this vid:

I bought his DVD. Everyone should review his techniques. I do every 6 months.

cheers,

Petey
