Look what the mailman brought me today:

A brand-new, 70+ year old Silvertone! With the original Sears & Roebuck price tag still attached! Original price in 1942-ish, $3.25 (I paid about 20 times that. Oh, inflation!).

Solid birch is my guess, for the body wood anyway.

Wooden pegs! Check it out! And the strings appear to be some sort of twine. Or maybe they're gut - I have no idea what ancient dessicated gut looks like.

The glue in the neck joint has given way over time - I can actually see daylight between the heel and the body.

The original box:
#825 is either the model number, or stock number.

And the price tag (sorry it's so out of focus, I spent my money on this instead of a passable camera):
825 also appears on the price tag. I think the numbers at the top, under "Sears Roebuck", are actually the stock numbers, so I'm inclined to think that 825 is the model.

70752Pretty, pretty!

As far as #825 being the model number, this ad from the Silvertone World Facebook page has model numbers that end 8XX.
