Look what the mailman brought me today:
A brand-new, 70+ year old Silvertone! With the original Sears & Roebuck price tag still attached! Original price in 1942-ish, $3.25 (I paid about 20 times that. Oh, inflation!).
Solid birch is my guess, for the body wood anyway.
Wooden pegs! Check it out! And the strings appear to be some sort of twine. Or maybe they're gut - I have no idea what ancient dessicated gut looks like.
The glue in the neck joint has given way over time - I can actually see daylight between the heel and the body.
