I should know this as a definite, but I wanna make sure

ok, G# is played with a "F" shape barred on the 3rd fret...
That would make G that same shape barred on the 2nd fret?

it sounds the same as the standard G to me, but I won't lie, I'm 2/3 tone-deaf most of the time.

Am I right?:music:

They're the same. :D Look what you're playing on the C, E, and A string. The only difference between the two chords is the note on the G string.

That shape is a movable chord shape. Which means that each fret you move the bar down the neck, you're increasing the chord by one half step. Aldrine had a good uke minute on this. So it would start from 2010 which is F, and go down to 3121 which is F#/Gb, and 4232 is G, and 5343 is G#/Ab, etc.

It's not a dumb question, and you are right.

Yup. Moveable chord shapes are SOOO useful. Try the F7 shape - that gives a great alternative G7. I use it a lot.

Ukantor.
