Can any of you luthiers tell me if you can tune a steel string tenor guitar in GCEA? I would use a low G. I'm concerned it would damage the guitar I've heard the lower tension can cause the neck to bow or warp. I want to do this so I can use the same chords as my tenor uke.

Lower tension on a guitar neck won't harm the structure, but you will have trouble driving the top and getting volume out of it. Higher tension can damage the bracing and rip the bridge off.

You'll need to find the right string gauges to get proper tension for your scale length and desired tuning. There's a calculator out there on the web somewhere, and you'll probably have to put together a custom string set.

I have a few vintage tenor guitars and I play them in CGDA (with a set of tenor guitar strings) or DGBE (with a set of medium acoustic guitar strings on a 23 1/2" scale).
