How do you suggest cutting string slots for tie-type bridges. Table saw? Gauged hand saw? I remember seeing a metal template that Ken Timms made but not what to use to cut the slots. Thanks!
I use a hacksaw that I've pounded the set out of so that the blade is flat. The kerf is just wide enough for the smaller strings. For the C string you can widen the slot with a bit if sandpaper.
I just made this one on Saturday (a la Timms) using a standard hacksaw and then some sandpaper. It needs a little more fettling but the basics are there. I clamp a sacrificial piece across the saddle slot and stop sawing when I hit it.
