Hello,

I'm thinking about getting a cheap baritone ukulele and converting it to a bass ukulele.

Would I have to modify the saddle? Compensating it shouldn't be a prolem, but is the bridge on a ubass angled or is it straight like a classical guitar?

Thank you for your help

I'm building a bass ukulele at present using Pyramid strings from Germany - far better than those silicone jobbies because you can use standard tuners on the headstock I use Gotoh planetary Banjo). When I made an electric bass the offset on these strings was 1mm on the treble and 5mm on the bass. Although bass intonation is a difficult one for a number of factors. You will need a pickup to get the volume.

I recently built a u bass and went with a straight saddle. I am happy with the results. You will need to put a piezo pickup under the saddle, so you'll have to lower the saddle thickness to compensate.
