Hello all. I have been looking for some info or plans for building a Tahitian banjo. Haven't found anything too useful so far. I did find a blog in an older thread, but was looking for more detailed info. I know its not too common on here but I thought I would check.

Thanks, Greg

Hi there, I got one made in a New Zealand Prison - very solid out of one piece of oak. Could double up as a Patu.

Here is a link that might be of help:
If you look under construction there are a few good images that give you a bit of an idea.

Here is another link with great images:

You could always send a message to one of those builders - Polynesians are amongst the most helpful and friendly people on earth and i am sure most would share their wisdom.

You might have more success searching for a Tahitian ukulele as that is what it's commonly called. I've got one and it's a kick. Look up Scott Zuziak for inspiration. He makes the most amazing Tahitian ukes I've ever seen. You don't really need plans. Grab a few images from a Google image search and figure it out from there. My neighbor builds them and they are really very simple instruments.
